Worthy of Discussion

Got some-something on my mind. There's this dude in my neighborhood. Our daughters are friends. He has been deployed over seas in combat for a while.

Good news, he has gotten come home and be with his wife and daughter. Bad news, he is recovering from a 30+ foot fall while repelling from a helicopter and the line got cut.

That is all the detail I have, in all of its inaccuracy. But that is enough detail for me. So how do show someone that you appreciate them? How do you cut through what is socially acceptable, what is common, what is expected ... and show respect and honor and thanks to someone?

It has been about 12 years, since I decided to stop wandering around this word without my purpose and actually found my God. And in that time, I have been changed into someone who appreciates and accepts that the gift of suffering and sacrifice to guard and secure my life ... is a precious gift. And after this life, I will get the chance to tell that to Christ face to face. But now, in this life ... I want to tell the man ... my neighbor down the road.

I believe in the value of a firm sincere handshake ... but this merits more.

The ideas are fairly incomplete beyond this ... but worth sharing none-the-less.

Worthy of Discussion

It should also be noted that this past Sunday was Communion Sunday. None of my 3 children ( ages 5 , 6 , 8 ) take Communion, but my 8 year old was asking about it. More specifically, he has asking to be able to participate. I began discussing it with him further. He has make a profession of faith in Christ before, and Communion being a natural act of obedience ... I believe he MAY be ready. I have begun speaking with my wife about this ( she grew up a bit different from me and has some additional foundation here ). It did provide me an excellent opportunity to talk to some other dads about this too.

A beginning

I suppose most grand adventures have something of a modest beginning. And to that end, many adventures do not end as you would have thought. In short, the weekend did not work out as I had hoped ... but it was a good weekend none-the-less.

Friday : flee from the office , argue with better half, acquire 1 of my 3 offspring , example bikes and gear at http://www.performancebike.com ( the store, not the website ) test some bikes and get a set of "Forte Shovel Platform Pedals", "WTB - Veloci Raptor 2.1 Front Tire", and a "Hutchinson Alligator 2.0 Rear Tire", find way to Toyrus and acquire (1) pack of dominos and (2) Lego Starwars ships , lastly to a late dinner at Bass Lake Ale House with wife and remaining 2 offspring

Saturday : cartoons , some house cleaning , some urban biking ( trails were closed due to wet conditions ) , some vittles at Bob Evans , and random shopping

Sunday : worked in morning , late to church , lunch , wife takes 1 kiddo to a b-day party while I piddle with others , mess around the home a bit , off to Awana at church , grocery store , dinner ... much reading of bedtime stories
